One of Lovecraft's finest Cuthulu stories "A Shadow over Innsmouth," which is about a city of people who worship and interbreed with horredous immortal fish demons. There was a recent film take on it called Dagon. I've not seen it yet, but I am of the opinion that Lovecraft never adapts well to film... there are certainly enough precedents for this belief. I'll probably rent it anyway. The thing that struck me about this story was the concept of the "Innsmouth Look," a set of features connected with having the blood of the deep ones on your family tree. It was supposed to get worse as they aged, making them look more unnatural and fishy, until eventually they mutate into sea monsters. I had a lot of fun playing with these traits in my mind, adn eventually, I decided to modify an image of someone to give them the Innsmouth look. Naturally, the task fell to my brother, who makes a really good model for these things. The original image of him (for which he retains copyright) is below. And because I know you're dying to ask, "Miskatonic" is the name of both the fictitious New Hampshire county in which most of Lovecraft's stories take place. In Arkham, the largst town in the county there is also a Miskatonic University, and there is of course, a Miskatonic River.
