These images are all taken from childrens books produced by the marvellous Platt & Munk Company. for the most part these books are anonymous and undated, although the copyright on "Things That Go" is 1943. The Platt & Munk Co. was an independant firm of producers of childrens books. They did mostly picture-book format renditions of Faerie Tales and Nursery Rhymes, often with a poem at the end. They are coveted by booksellers all over the world for their long lasting , high-quality materials, whimsical images, and excellent prose. Later, Platt & Munk was bought by Putnam, shortly after thay had expanded to novels for young people. A number of Nacy Drew and Hardy poys books were published under the Platt & Munk Co. name. Today they are still a part of the large Putnam Berkeley Group (a part of MCA, Inc.), along with a large number of other small publishing houses. They are now primarily a label under which youth novels are released. These Particular images are restored from old copies of a few Platt & Munk Co. picture books. In most cases I had to contend with crayon marks, faded colour, sepia pages, tears, sixty year-old creases, and missing chunks of pages. Originally I did these for a small Antiques store called Mercury Rising based out of Kentville, NS. and then truned them into high-quality glossy prints to decorate the store, and for sale as nursery decorations. While I am not currently producing Platt & Munk prints, I may in the future return to doing so. If you would be interested in these prints, or can tell me more about The Platt & Munk Co.'s history, contact me To view the images, just click on the "thumbnails" below.
